Employment and training officers

If you need some help deciding what training course to do, or what type of work to do, or how to go about getting a job, our employment and training officers can help.

They only work with care-leavers, and have lots of specialist information. They can advise you on your options, and help you with job applications and preparing for interviews.

When you're at college or in a job, they can keep in touch with your tutor or employer to make sure things keep going smoothly.

Work placement scheme

We run a work placement scheme for care-leavers. We can arrange a placement of up to four weeks with the Council and other local businesses. There are a wide range of jobs you can try, from horticulture to computers.

You'll get a training allowance of £40 per week, plus expenses, plus a £50 bonus at the end of your placement.

Incentive payments for education, training or work

You could get up to £30 per week for attending college or a training course and you may also get a bonus for making good progress.

One-off costs

You may have to pay for a work uniform or college equipment, or things like driving lessons and leisure activities. There may be other things as well. We can help to pay for these.

Extra costs like this are usually agreed in your Pathway Plan.
