How places are allocated

Admissions to community schools and voluntary controlled schools are controlled by the Local Authority. Some arrangements for voluntary controlled schools may vary, however, and it is advisable to consult the school's propectus.

In academy, voluntary aided and foundation schools the governors are responsible for the admissions policy and may have different closing dates for applications from community and controlled schools. Details of arrangements are available from the head teacher.

Most voluntary aided schools within the county are either Church of England or Roman Catholic and may expect families to share their religious views. The churches have their own education authorities who advise on this and other criteria.

If you choose to send your child to a school in another area - either outside Nottinghamshire or in the City of Nottingham - you should apply to the LA for that area. Conversely, if you live outside Nottinghamshire and would like a place for your child at a County school, you should apply to the Local Education Officer or head teacher (if it is a voluntary aided school).

Waiting lists

Waiting lists are held for Nottinghamshire Community and Voluntary Controlled schools for admissions to intake years only. For this year's applications:

  • reception waiting list runs from offer day until 31 March 2009
  • infant to junior waiting list runs from offer day until 5 September 2008
  • primary to secondary waiting list runs from offer day until 5 September 2008.

Where applications are refused, they will be placed on the waiting list. The position on the waiting list can go up or down depending on late applications received. Parents may contact us at any time to determine the position on the waiting list.

We do not hold waiting lists for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools for applications received for mid-term applications outside of normal round.

Voluntary Aided/Foundation/Academy schools may hold waiting lists for different periods of time to the LA. It is always advisable to contact the school for information on their waiting lists.
