Parentline Plus makes a vital difference to the lives of families every year. As one grateful parent has commented; “The Parentline is like Samaritans for parents at their wits end.”

Our Parentline is available 24/7, 365 days a year on 0808 800 2222 for parents in a crisis, but we offer more than just emergency support. When a one-off call to the Parentline may not be enough, we offer Extended Telephone Support to help parents and carers tackle their parenting problems.

Extended Telephone Support

Here in Nottinghamshire, a pilot project for Extended Telephone Support has just been introduced after running for about a year in other pilot areas around the country.

Extended Telephone Support is up to six, weekly, 45-minute individual telephone support sessions. All anyone working with parents has to do to refer a parent for this service is to fill out a simple online referral form. Parentline Plus then contacts the parent to arrange convenient times for the telephone support worker to call.

The support worker will talk through parenting and family relationships, sources of support and help the parents think of ways to improve their situation. This free service has been a lifeline for many parents. Earlier this year one dad wrote; “The individual telephone support I was offered has helped me through a period, which would otherwise have been overwhelming and at times unbearable. The support worker assigned to me called me each week, exactly on time with no expectations, this meant a lot.”

Another parent, Kirsty, who had been going through a really difficult break up of her marriage, with severe behavioural difficulties from one of her teenage children, said; “Parentline Plus helped me take simple actions to address the behaviour of my son. By breaking it down into small manageable steps, it really helped me and my family.”

A practitioner said; “I spoke to a mum today who is using the service and she was really positive. The difference in how she sounded was amazing. It is certainly a service that will be invaluable to us. Some of our families really need that regular contact.”
