Partnership Working
Reaching Out: Think Family [PDF 529KB]
Published by the Cabinet Office Social Exclusion Task Force, this document is the first part of the Families at Risk Review setting out emerging policy for the minority of families who have not been able to take advantage of the recent Every Child Matters initiatives. It explores the multiple problems some families face and the cost of social exclusion. On extended services it says 'This recognises the crucial role that schools can play in engaging with the family and providing a hub for integration of wider services'.
Schools
Transforming lives - extended services and special schools [1545KB]
This 16 page practice report demonstrates how special schools, in a range of settings and contexts, are using extended services to improve outcomes for pupils and support for parents. The supplement also looks at how special schools are using consultation techniques to design services for maximum impact, accessing funding and overcoming challenges.
Guidance on the Duty to Promote Community Cohesion [264KB]
This DCSF document is non-statutory guidance that explains what is meant by community cohesion and describes how schools may contribute and promote community cohesion. Extended services core offer is one of three areas where schools may contribute and Ofsted inspection of the contribution that schools make to community cohesion will commence in September 2008.
