Below are the answers to the most common questions asked about the Sure Start Children's Centres programme in Nottinghamshire.

What has happen to the Sure Start Local Programmes?

Originally Sure Start local programmes were funded for ten years. They have now become Children’s Centres. The good effective early years services developed through Sure Start local programmes will be consolidated in the Children’s Centres programme so that children are safe, happy, healthy and ready to learn.

Have Governors had to approve plans to build on school sites?

Yes, they have been consulted on plans as they have progressed and without their approval, and the support of head teachers and other school staff, we would not have been able to move forward with project developments.

How will the Children’s Centres impact on existing daycare within an area?

We are keen to work with local childcare providers, and are anxious not to threaten their viability. In many areas we have been able to gain Government approval not to build any new daycare. Instead we are working in partnership with local childcare providers, by funding an early years teacher to work hands on with the children in daycare, leading the delivery of the Foundation Stage curriculum, and supporting the Birth to Three framework. This enables us to achieve the requirement for integrated care and education.
