BSF school Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a national programme to rebuild 50% of the secondary school estate, to remodel 35% and to refurbish the remaining 15%, over a 15-year programme. The funding is part PFI (Private Finance Initiative) credits and part grant and is currently allocated on levels of high deprivation, low attainment and an authority capacity to deliver.

Nottinghamshire has beaten off fierce competition to win a place in wave 6 of the programme and can expect around 150 million pounds worth of investment. This will be used to rebuild or refurbish 8 schools in the former coalfield area of Mansfield and the rural market town of Newark.

Over the next 15 years, Nottinghamshire is likely to have as much as £750 million available for educational transformation and investment in secondary schools.
