Changes to the priginal proposal

  • Due to unforeseen circumstances the Retford Post-16 Centre could not be housed within one of the original closing comprehensive school buildings. Therefore, a new building has been constructed on the Ordsall site and is linked to the new Retford Leisure Centre.
  • Following detailed consultation the decision was taken to rebuild a new St Giles School on the shared Babworth Road site with the new Retford Oaks High School.
  • The decision was taken to amalgamate Portland and Hartland Comprehensive Schools and rebuild on the existing site. This decision was taken following an Ofsted inspection at Hartland and because of difficulties in acquiring a new site on the north side of Worksop for Portland Comprehensive School.
  • The Bircotes and Harworth Community School has been renamed Serlby Park School and has become a 3-18 site incorporating both North Border Infant and Junior Schools. Consultations are ongoing with regard to resiting and the rebuilding of the original North Border institutions and refurbishment of Serlby Park School secondary school building.
  • The PFI Project is on schedule and to date all sites have opened on time. It is expected that, as planned, Portland and Valley Schools along with both Retford and Worksop Leisure Centres will open on 7 January 2008.
