The proposal

  • The complete rebuilding of Tuxford Comprehensive School on its existing site
  • The provision of two new 11-16 comprehensive school facilities on new sites in Retford town. Both these schools will be designated as 11-18 schools. The 11-16 curriculum will be delivered in the new facilities. Post-16 education will delivered in the centre described below
  • The provision of a post-16 centre to serve the whole of Retford town. It is anticipated that this will be housed in one of the present comprehensive school buildings after a programme of refurbishment and remodelling
  • The refurbishment and remodelling of St Giles Special School in Retford
  • Relocating Portland Comprehensive School to a new site on the north side of Worksop
  • The complete rebuilding of Valley Comprehensive School on its existing site
  • The complete rebuilding of Hartland Comprehensive School on its existing site
  • The complete rebuilding of Bircotes and Harworth Community School on its existing site
  • The building of a post-16 centre to serve the whole of Worksop town.

This scheme has been the subject of long and wide consultation and has the full support of:

  • All the head teachers and governing bodies of the secondary and special schools in Bassetlaw
  • Parents, pupils and the wider community of Bassetlaw
  • North Nottinghamshire College of Further Education
  • Nottinghamshire Learning and Skills Council
  • Bassetlaw District Council
  • Local industry
  • National and local politicians of all parties.
