Notice is hereby given in accordance with the provisions of Section 28 (1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 that Nottinghamshire County Council being the Local Education Authority (LEA) proposes to make a prescribed alteration to the Portland Community Comprehensive School at Sparken Hill, Worksop, S80 1AW, in the District of Bassetlaw, by providing 715 additional pupil places with effect from 1 September 2004.

It is intended within the 2004/2005 school year when the proposal is to be implemented that the number of pupils to be admitted into the first age group (Year 7) will be 310.

In January 2004 the number of pupils on roll at the above school was 897 including sixth form pupils and the net capacity of the school is 935 places. The effect of this proposal, together with proposed modifications to the buildings of both Portland School and the Hartland School referred to in explanatory note 1 below, will be to increase the net capacity of Portland School to 1650 places.

Where appropriate, the proposed arrangements for transport of pupils will be in accordance with the LEA’s transport policy.

In accordance with the provisions of the above Act, any person may submit comments and/or objections to the proposal by letter addressed to the Director of Education (Reference ABZ), Development Group, Education Department, County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7QP, which should reach the Director by 5pm on 12 March 2004.

Objections received and not subsequently withdrawn in writing will be forwarded to the Nottinghamshire School Organisation Committee together with the Authority’s observations within one month of the expiry date of this Notice.

Explanatory Note:

1. This Notice should be read in conjunction with the Notice being published simultaneously by the Nottinghamshire LEA which intends to discontinue the Hartland Community Comprehensive School at Sparken Hill, Worksop, S80 1AN, in the District of Bassetlaw, with effect from 20 July 2004.

2. It is intended that the additional pupil places referred to above will be provided by utilising the existing premises of Hartland School from September 2004.

Notice is hereby given in accordance with the provisions of Section 29 (1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 that Nottinghamshire County Council being the Local Education Authority (LEA) proposes to discontinue the Hartland Community Comprehensive School at Sparken Hill, Worksop, S80 1AN, in the District of Bassetlaw, with effect from 20 July 2004.

Pupils currently attending the above school will automatically be offered places at the Portland Community Comprehensive School also at Sparken Hill, Worksop, S80 1AW, with effect from September 2004. Admission may also be sought to other schools that may have places available.

Where appropriate, the proposed arrangements for transport of pupils will be in accordance with the LEA’s transport policy.

In accordance with the provisions of the above Act, any person may submit comments and/or objections to the proposal by letter addressed to the Director of Education (Reference ABZ), Development Group, Education Department, County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7QP. As the above proposal relates to a school in special measures, comments/objections should reach the Director by 5pm on 1 March 2004.

Explanatory Note:

1. This Notice should be read in conjunction with the Notice being published simultaneously by the Nottinghamshire LEA which intends to make a prescribed alteration to the Portland School mentioned above by providing additional pupil places at the school.

2. Under the above proposal, the following primary phase schools, currently in the Hartland family of schools, will become part of the Portland family of schools from September 2004: St. Anne's CE Primary, St. Augustine's Infant, St. Augustine's Junior, Manton Primary and Priory CE Primary.

3. Also under this proposal, Ryton Park Primary School, currently in the Hartland family of schools, will become part of the Valley Community Comprehensive family of schools in Worksop from September 2004.

4. Admissions arrangements for the 2004/2005 school year resulting from this proposal will be as follows :

a) Pupils currently on roll at Hartland School in Years 7 to 12 inclusive will be offered a place at Portland School from September 2004.

b) Those Year 6 pupils currently attending the primary phase schools referred to in explanatory note 2 above that have been offered a place at Hartland School from September 2004, will be offered a place at Portland School.

c) Those Year 6 pupils currently attending Ryton Park Primary School that have been offered a place at Hartland School from September 2004, will be offered a place at Valley School from September 2004.

5. Admission arrangements for the 2005/2006 and subsequent school years to the Worksop secondary schools will be in accordance with the LEA's admission policy procedures applicable at that time.
