Nottinghamshire County Council prides itself on providing support throughout the adoption process and beyond.
So for prospective adopters and adoptive parents, we offer a series of informative sessions that are helpful and fun. Often featuring key speakers with extensive experience in their field, the sessions are run throughout the year in various locations across the county.

"I can't dance, don't ask me" - First steps in understanding attachment difficulties
How does early childhood experience of abuse, neglect and loss affect children’s behaviour and feelings? A one day conference for adoptive parents and their support network, led by Sue Goulding. Sue’s career as a child psychologist has spanned over 30 years working with children, their families and carers in education, social services and health authorities.

Changing families, changing roles
Nobody can successfully parent in a vacuum: all families with children need support and back-up. This course is an opportunity for grandparents, adult family members and friends to explore the impact of adoption on them and how they can help the adoptive family.This course aims to help family members and friends to understand more about modern adoption, giving them an opportunity to share their own feelings, hopes and fears. It will also look at ways of supporting the adoptive family to build lasting relationships.
