Regeneration
Occupations in this area of work involve business and economic skills and knowledge, as well as the ability to network with the local and wider community. They are based mainly within the Culture and Community Department of the County Council.
The work of the Regeneration Division falls into two main areas of Economic Development and Community Regeneration.
The Division is at the heart of the County Council's drive to regenerate Nottinghamshire and to reinforce it's role as a modern local authority, in touch with it's people and communities.
We adopt a holistic approach to economic and community regeneration by:
- Supporting business by giving direct financial assistance, facilitating inward investment, assisting with marketing and export and running the innovative "Enterprising Nottinghamshire" programme which assists local firms in raising the skills of their workforce.
- Managing our engagement with strategic partnerships, at sub-regional, cross-authority and local levels. These include the North Nottinghamshire Partnership, the North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire Coalfield Alliance and the Crime and Disorder Partnerships.
- Managing partnerships with voluntary sector intermediary bodies and parish councils.
- Working with local area partnerships - for example, our innovative local area forums and more specific partnerships such as the Sure Start schemes in the County and SRB operational groups.
The Strategic dimension of the Division's work is delivered by:
- Looking after our Structure Plan which guides the sustainable development of the County.
- Working with regional organisations to promote Nottinghamshire's interests.
- Managing the Council's international work, including promoting the County's interests through the East Midlands Office, and managing the twinning links which enrich the educational and cultural life of Nottinghamshire.
- Providing demographic and socio-economic research.
- Respond effectively to opportunities and challenges in the New Commitment to Neighbourhood Renewal, and Urban and Rural White Papers.
Apart from posts associated with specific projects, which are often time limited or externally funded, the work of the division is undertaken by two main types of jobs; Development Officers and Administrative, Technical and Clerical Support Officers.
Development Officers Typical areas of work by Development Officers would include:
- Monitoring projects grant aided by the division
- Budget monitoring and control
- Undertaking research and reporting findings
- Cross-service working at a corporate level
- Supporting work relating to key strategic policies
- Working with regional and local partnerships
- Development of Local Area Forums
- Developing and delivering innovative approaches to business improvement
- Working with owners and managers of businesses to deliver key aspects of policy regarding regeneration, job creation and sustainability.
Administrative, Technical and Support Officers Principally, these posts support the work of managers and Development Officers as outlined above. Typical work would include:
- Quality control
- Processing invoices and payments
- Development, review and maintenance of administrative systems
- Budget monitoring and control
- Secretarial support
- Committee and constitutional administration
- Processing management information
