Buy recycled

Recycling household waste helps the environment by saving raw materials, saving energy, reducing air pollution and reducing the amount of waste for disposal.

The next step is to buy products made from recycled materials, and encourage manufacturers and retailers to produce and stock them.

Buy it, recycle it, buy recycled and close the loop.

When you go shopping, buy recycled.  Look out for the 'buy recycled' logo and buy recycled products whenever possible.

Recycle

  • As much as you are able to in your kerbside collection.
  • Glass, paper, cans, plastic bottles, textiles and books in your local recycling banks.
  • Any surplus household material at your local household waste recycling centre.

New products are made from your recyclables.  Some of these products made from recycled materials are returned to the supermarket and other shops. By purchasing recycled products you help to increase the demand for these products.  This increased demand will then in turn help to create end markets for recyclable materials and further promote recycling.

For more information on buying recycled products visit www.recycledproducts.org.uk and www.wrap.org.uk
