Planning Aid East Midlands
Planning Aid provides free, independent and professional planning advice to communities and individuals who cannot afford to pay consultant fees. It complements the work of local planning authorities, but is wholly independent of them. The website can be found at www.planningaid.rtpi.org.uk
The Planning Inspectorate
This government agency deals with the processing of planning appeals and holding inquiries into local development plans. The website can be found at www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk
Communities and Local Government

Regional bodies
East Midlands Regional Assembly (to 31 March 2010)
The East Midlands Regional Assembly (EMRA) is a partnership body that brings together representatives from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors. It was launched in 1998 with specific roles for providing regional accountability to the Regional Development Agency and to act as the regional planning body.
East Midlands Regional Assembly will cease to exist on 31 March 2010. The website can be found at www.emra.gov.uk/
East Midlands Councils and East Midlands Leaders Board (from 1 April 2010)
From 1 April a new organisation, East Midlands Councils which includes the East Midlands Leaders' Board will take on some of EMRAs work. The website can be found at www.emra.gov.uk
East Midlands Development Agency (emda)
emda is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England, It aims to be a strategic driver of sustainable economic development, and reduce economic disparities between the East Midlands and other English regions. The website can be found at www.emda.org.uk/main

Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
The RTPI promotes good planning; developing and shaping policy affecting the built environment, raising the standards of the planning profession through education and training for planners. It is the professional body for Town and Country Planners. The website can be found at www.rtpi.org.uk/
Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA)
The TCPA campaigns for the reform of the UK's planning system to make it more responsive to people's needs and aspirations and to promote sustainable development. The website can be found at www.tcpa.org.uk/
