Water
Although the UK has substantial water resources, there is now more than ever a need to conserve our water.
With the introduction of labour saving appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers, demand for water has been increasing steadily over the last 20 years.
- The daily amount of water used by one person has risen from an estimated 18 litres to around 130 litres
- Some predictions estimate that this may increase by a third again by 2020.
The unusual weather patterns we have experienced over the last few years (which are thought to be associated with climate change) have brought us higher average summer temperatures. This will in turn bring an even higher demand for water in the warmer months.
To safeguard our future water supplies, we need to take action now to improve water conservation and to reduce wastage.
See our water saving tips for what you can do to conserve water at home and in the garden.
