Parish Paths Partnership Scheme

The Parish Paths Partnership Scheme is funded and managed by us and aims to work with local communities to help them improve and promote their own rights of way network.

70 parishes in Nottinghamshire are already in the scheme and here are some of the reasons why:

  • It won't cost you anything; you will receive a parish grant.
  • A project officer will work with you to provide training, information, general support and guidance.
  • Local people can become more involved in making decisions about their rights of way.
  • Easy access routes can be created, by replacing stiles with gates for example.
  • You can learn new skills at training and social events.
  • Produce leaflets about your parish and local heritage.

How does it work?

  1. Your parish signs into the scheme.
  2. A path warden is appointed.
  3. Local landowners are contacted about the scheme.
  4. A whole parish survey is undertaken, with advice and guidance from us.
  5. Training courses are organised for you to attend.
  6. Improvement and maintenance works are done.
  7. Publicity and promotion of the network takes place, eg-leaflets or map cabinets.
  8. Ongoing annual maintenance.

The Farm Partnership Scheme

If you are a landowner or farmer with public rights of way on your land you could be paid to maintain them. Nearly 100 farmers in Nottinghamshire already do so under the Farm Partnership Scheme.

How does it work?

  1. A survey of the rights of way on your landholding is undertaken.
  2. A work program is agreed, which may typically include replacing signposts, changing stiles for kissing gates and carrying out annual vegetation clearance.
  3. We send you a works order.
  4. Payment is then made once the work has been inspected.

This partnership approach is successful because both we and landowners/farmers have legal duties and responsibilities for rights of way.
