Woodland and trees
Trees play a vital role in the appearance and quality of our natural environment, and we invest heavily in them.
We manage, in partnership with district and borough councils, 5000km of roadside trees, ensuring their maintenance, safety and beauty. We also offer advice on arboriculture. The following documents explain more about how we look after roadside trees:
Highway Tree Maintenance Ranking System [PDF 16KB] Tree Conservation and Maintenance Policy [PDF 44KB]
If you have a query relating to a tree within the boundary of your property, please contact your district council to ensure that it has no legal protection.
We offer technical woodland advice to the Sherwood Forest Trust and the Greenwood Community Forest.
We’re also very active in the reclamation of derelict industrial sites, working together with the Forestry Commission, to develop redundant British Coal sites into forest and parkland for public recreation.
If you have any problems caused by tree, hedges and bushes please use our online problem form.
