50 mile ride

This route is for cyclists looking for a sporting challenge.  50 miles will take a bit of training if you are a beginner but this distance is completely achievable.  The 50 mile ride starts at the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepont and passes through Radcliffe on Trent and East Bridgford before crossing the A46.  The cyclists then head towards the half way point in Newark (refreshment stop) passing through the villages of Car Colston, Hawksworth (refreshment stop), Shelton, Cotham and Hawton. From Newark the ride passes through South Muskham, Kelham, Rolleston, Fiskerton, Bleasby, Thurgarton (refreshment stop), Hoveringham, Caythorpe and Lowdham before joining up with the 18 mile cyclists at the A6097.  The ride then cross over the A6097 and follow a track through Severn Trent's Bulcote Farm towards Burton Joyce Station. At the end of the track the cyclists turn left towards Stoke Bardolph (refreshment stop).  The ride then takes cyclist through Colwick Park over Lady Bay Bridge and back to the finish at the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.  The riders will set off after the 100 mile riders at about 9am.

Freeth Cartwright Corporate Challenge

There is also the Freeth Cartwright corporate challenge for businesses.  This year the corporate challenge has a choice of distances, meaning individuals within the same team can opt for either the 18 or 50 mile route, depending on their ability. Team size is recommended at five people. The challenge is to raise the most money for the event charities rather than to complete it in the fastest time.

Organisations are encouraged to enter a team of five into either the 18 or 50 mile ride.  The aim is to raise at least £50,000 for the Great Notts Bike Ride's five nominated charities, with the top fundraising business taking the corporate challenge title.  For more information, or to enter a team, contact Marie Quinn at Freeth Cartwright on tel: 0115 934 3917, or visit www.freethcartwright.co.uk/GNBR-2008.
