Recession response

We are aware that the global economic recession is likely to affect us all in one way or another. Across the County Council services are being modified and new initiatives introduced to support individuals, communities and businesses. Find out more about our recession response.

As part of this work we are keen to offer what support we can to anyone suffering the effects of the economic slowdown. We have produced a series of pages to guide individuals and businesses to useful advice and information. View our recession advice.

Approved Traders Scheme

Our Trading Standards service runs a Buy with Confidence scheme to keep an up to date list of reputable local businesses checked by Trading Standards. You can search the list online, or get in touch if you're a trader wishing to join the scheme.

Business and the economy

We are working with our partners to promote an economy where skills, wage levels and enterprise match or exceed national averages. We want the local economy to become more competitive and sustainable, to link Nottinghamshire people to local jobs and to develop an enterprising culture.

We are:

  • Encouraging the development of innovation in businesses
  • Providing high quality, affordable work space across the county through a network of business innovation centres
  • Supporting physical regeneration projects which will create business opportunities. This includes the Sherwood Growth Zone
  • Promoting social enterprise
  • Developing an enterprise culture which includes work with young people
  • Enabling local people to develop their skills.

We also have a wider role in working with communities:

  • to help people get into work
  • to address disadvantage.

In addition we also provide information about the economy.

Further information about the points mentioned is available through the links above and on the right.
