The Government considers climate change as arguably the greatest challenge facing the world today. The need to play its part is recognised by the County Council, which has its own carbon management plan and is also a signatory to The Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change. This Declaration commits the Council to tackling the causes and effects of climate change and to encouraging all sectors in our local community to take the opportunity to adapt to the impacts of climate change, reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions and make public their commitment to action.
The Council has committed within its strategic plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its own estate and operations and has produced a wide-ranging carbon management plan.
As part of its work to address the potential impacts of climate change the Council has developed a Local Climate Impacts Profile, which highlights some of the Council’s vulnerability to extreme weather events.
