A short walk from the car park, over the bridge, will take you into the Medieval Fortified Enclosure that forms the Entrance Courtyard.
Facilities
Inside the courtyard is:
- a shop
- a cafe with a small kids play area
- tourist information/exhibition showcasing Nottinghamshire
- toilets and baby changing facilities.
These will be available to all visitors, paying or non paying and will replace the facilities currently located within the forest.
A footpath from the courtyard leads those who wish to explore the forest out past the new Ranger Station, around a pond and wildlife area and up a gentle wheelchair friendly ramp onto a new pedestrian bridge over the Swinecote Road that provides free access into Sherwood Forest.
The current visitor centre will remain open until the new one is ready for business.
