The home of contemporary craft
Rufford Craft Centre comprises a gallery with a changing programme of exhibitions, Creative Learning Centre and seminar room all housed in the former stable block which dates from the 1660s.
The Craft Centre offers the opportunity to participate in workshops in a variety of art and craft forms through a programme of public creative workshops with professional artists.
We also offer an extensive education and outreach programme for schools and groups. A highlight of our programme is the annual Earth & Fire International Ceramics Fair, which takes over the Abbey grounds at the end of June each year.
Exhibitions, events and workshops
Pollie and Garry Uttley first visited India in 1995 and were immediately overwhelmed by the sheer visual overload they experienced.
Since then, almost annual visits have reinforced the inspiration for their ceramic work.
Producing decorative wall panels, bowls and platters, they incorporate a wide variety of techniques including: painting and printing, applying andf impressing, slip work and sgraffito, raku firing, decal transfers, folding and stitching, colour washing and glaszing, along with extenstive use of gold lustre.
