Opening times

Entry to Bestwood Country Park is free. We're open every day except Christmas Day.

Car parks are open from 10am to 5pm from March to October, and 10am to 4.30pm from November to February. Read more about parking under the 'How to find us' tab above.

The Dynamo House Café opens every Saturday morning from 10am to 12noon.

View our opening times document for more information [PDF]

The Dynamo House Café opens every Saturday morning from 10am to 12noon and on Bank Holidays, serving hot drinks and home made cakes. It is run by volunteers from the Friends of Bestwood Country Park and the Bestwood Village Women's Institute. The café welcomes well behaved dogs and sometimes has dog treats on sale too.

Picnic tables are located in various parts of the park.

The privately owned Bestwood Lodge Hotel is situated within the park's grounds and has a bar, restaurant and accommodation.

Toilets are available close to Alexandra Lodge and the Classroom (Bestwood village end of park), and at Bestwood Lodge Drive. They are open from 10am to 5pm from March to October and 10am to 4.30pm from November to February.

Toilets at the park's Bestwood Lodge Drive car park and the Woodland Toilet Block (near Alexandra Lodge) have fully accessible toilets for RADAR key holders.

Access for all

A number of paths are accessible to wheelchairs but due to the hilly nature of the site, we advise people with particular needs to contact the rangers' office at Alexandra Lodge, tel: 0115 927 3674 to discuss accessibility.

The park entrances are all equipped with kissing gates which can be fully opened with a RADAR key to allow wheelchair and mobility scooter access.

The site includes some steep gradients, but a number of paths are accessible to wheelchairs.

An alternative path runs from the post office / newsagents in Bestwood Village to the Dynamo House (approximately 330 metres) which is also accessed by RADAR key controlled gate. A spare RADAR key is kept at the Dynamo House – contact the Heritage Development Officer, tel: 0115 9762422 (Tuesday – Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm and Saturday mornings between Easter and the end of September, 10.00am to 12.00pm) to discuss accessibility.

Visits to the Winding Engine House start at the Dynamo House – a single storey red brick building with a small display of coal mining memorabilia. This can be easily accessed by wheelchair or mobility scooter and has an automatically opening door and a unisex accessible toilet (no RADAR key required.) The Winding Engine House is a tall building with narrow metal stairs on the upper levels. However, a glass lift has been installed so that less mobile visitors including wheelchair and scooter users, can rise through the various levels, safely and easily viewing the huge Winding Engine, without the need to leave the lift.

Dogs are welcome in our park, but please keep them on a lead.

Bestwood Country Park has cycle tracks, so you can explore the park on two wheels.
