Targeted Support and Youth Justice Services are for young people who are vulnerable but who are not at immediate risk of harm. Young people may
- identify themselves as vulnerable,
- be referred by professionals or
- be highlighted through the criminal justice system.
Regardless of the way that young people enter the service a structured holistic intervention package will be offered including whole family work when appropriate.
Targeted Support and Youth Justice services are made up of multi-agency teams, drawing skills from the public, voluntary and private sectors; here are some of our partners
Youth Justice Services
We work with children and young people aged between 10 and 18 with the aim of preventing offending and re-offending.
The Youth Justice Service includes representatives from local councils, the police, probation service and health authorities and a range of other agencies. Find out more about Youth Justice Services at GOV.UK.
We make sure young people face up to their crime, take responsibility for their actions and we offer help and support if there are any personal issues like family background and friends that make re-offending more likely.
All referrals into the Youth Justice Service come exclusively through convictions up held in Her Majesty’s Court Service or through Nottinghamshire Police. All youth justice services are provided on a statutory basis.
We give every young person who has offended and been through the Court system one to one support. We look at ways to help the young person change their behaviour, and guide them towards new life opportunities like education and training, or learning new personal skills. All work is undertaken with the aim of reducing any further offending.

Targeted Support Services
Targeted Support works closely with the Youth Justice Service. Not all young people needing Targeted Support are at risk of offending but most young people who may offend need targeted support.
A Targeted Support Case Manager works with young people to help resolve problems which may include
- Problems with attendance or behaviour at school
- Problems with drugs or alcohol
- Difficulties finding work, training or re-entering education having left school
- Being at risk of getting involved in anti-social behaviour and/or crime
- Going missing from home or school
- Being homeless, or at risk of homelessness
- Young carers
- Teenage parents
We do this by listening to the young person and their family and working with them to draw up a structured plan to get them back on track.
Targeted support also provides prison in-reach, resettlement support and outreach youth work at evenings and weekends and is also responsible for delivering parenting contracts and orders.
Targeted Support works with young people between the ages of 8 – 18 across Nottinghamshire and provides a range of planned programmes depending on their needs and those of their families. We can work with you if you are happy to work with us.
