We need to find foster homes for many of the children in our care - could you be a foster carer?
The children we help come from all different backgrounds and all age groups, and they each have their own needs in respect of race, culture, religion, disability and language. We currently have a shortage of carers for siblings, older children and teenagers.
Becoming a foster carer
Becoming a foster carer will mean that you will have to go through an approval process to ensure that you have the skills and ability to take on such an important role.
Foster carers receive a regular weekly allowance to cover the cost of caring for a child. As carers gain experience, develop their skills and complete training courses, they will receive additional payments in recognition of this.
We offer excellent packages of support including:
- Ongoing training and development
- Generous financial allowances
- 24 hour support.
Support for foster carers
The support and training we provide to foster carers will enable you to give a high standard of care to the children you look after.
Nottinghamshire County Council offers all Nottinghamshire foster carers access to a secure 'by invitation only' password protected virtual learning environment. This website gives you access to a range of 'rooms', each devoted to a specific topic. The rooms contain information, learning materials and video relating to the topic. Some areas overlap, and you will find material linked across different topics. This website is intended to work alongside our programme of foster carers' learning events.
You will also find links to other relevant websites, back copies of our publication 'Fostering in Nottinghamshire', news of young people's activities and regular updates. In the future you will be able to attend Webinars from the comfort of your own home through 'Liveroom'.

Types of fostering
There are may different ways you can foster: we need families who can provide bridging or long term placements, we also seek foster homes for young people in crisis, older children who have already faced much disruption, our most challenging young people, and short breaks for disabled children.
