Council Tax Benefit

Description

This benefit is coming to an end. This was a benefit paid to help you with the costs of paying your Council Tax. From 1st April 2013 this benefit will be replaced by local Council Tax Support Schemes.

Who is the benefit aimed at?
  • Long-term ill / disabled
  • State pension age
  • Unemployed / part time workers
  • Families
Who qualifies for the benefit?
You must be liable to pay the Council Tax on your property; it does not matter whether you own or rent your property. You may qualify if you are working and/or on a low income or if you are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit), Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-based Employment and Support Allowance.
How to apply

To make a claim for Council Tax Benefit or discuss an existing claim you should contact your local Council, to whom you pay your Council Tax –
