Disability identification cards

There is a lot of support available to help you live at home that is not provided by Nottinghamshire County Council. This includes:

  • help with tasks such as shopping, getting about, odd jobs and gardening
  • things to do during the day such as lunch clubs, activities and classes.

Professionals and community groups

Our social care directory provides details of a range of organisations across Nottinghamshire that can meet your social care needs. This could include help at home, things to do during the day and support for carers.

Nottinghamshire Help Yourself lists a range of organisations that provide social care support in Nottinghamshire. You can:

  • Search for personal support services, useful equipment and local groups.
  • Contact support providers to get quotes, book appointments and leave feedback.

Our Care Services Directory lists local home care providers and care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission.

The Support with Confidence register provides a list of approved personal assistants who have been trained in supporting people to live independently. They have all had enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks and supplied references.

Search our Community Directory for hundreds of organisations that provide support, information and activities in your area.

The Bassetlaw Health directory has a range of support groups and contacts for people living in the Bassetlaw area.

First Contact

Filling in one simple checklist enables people aged over 60 to get vital services from a range of organisations without having to contact them all. These services include:

  •  a fire safety check
  •  a home security check
  •  home repairs or mobility adaptations
  •  energy saving improvements to keep warm and reduce energy bills
  •  confidential advice on money entitlements
  •  signposting to local voluntary and community groups and clubs
  •  advice on types of housing accommodation that may be available.

Community Outreach Advisors

Community Outreach Advisors visit people at home to look at what support they need to help them stay independent. They offer advice and information on a range of topics such as home safety and security, home adaptations, mobility aids, transport, social activities and benefits.

Referrals to the service can come from the individuals, their family or carers, or professionals such as GPs.

There are seven Community Outreach Advisors across the county. See the Notts50+ website for contact details. 

Housing Choices

Housing choices advisors provide information and advice to help you to look at your personal housing needs. This includes how to stay safely in your current home as well as advising you on different housing available in the area you wish to live. 

The advisors are also able to provide personal assistance with any possible move to a new property, such as completing forms, accompanying to view properties, arrangements for the move and settling in.
