Support for birth relatives
Throughout the adoption process there is support, information and counselling available to a member of a family where a child has been adopted.
For support and counselling before a child is placed into adoption the Independent Birth Family Counselling Service can provide confidential services for birth relatives. You can access this service by talking to the social worker involved in your case.
Intermediary services for adopted relatives
If you and your adopted relative are both over the age of 18, you have the legal right to ask for an intermediary service. This means that if the Adoption Agency agrees, they can let your relative know you would like to contact them.
Support After Adoption can provide an intermediary service for birth relatives living in Nottinghamshire, where both parties are over the age of 25.
