Meet Olivia.
Continued support from Talented Athletes funding has helped British rower, Olivia Bates on her sporting journey.
“The Talented Athlete funding from Nottinghamshire County Council has been crucial in enabling me to achieve my maximum potential in 2022. It has provided me with significant financial assistance with not only my equipment and boat insurance cost, but also with travel expenses for my weekly training sessions and when attending races nationally and internationally. I drive roughly 320 miles a week to training. That is a lot of petrol!
As a student, without the help of this funding I would undoubtedly have been unable to afford the myriad of expenses required to perform at the highest level and compete on the international stage. This support has played a significant role in my successes as a Great Britain rower in 2022. I now hope to push the limits further in 2023. Thank you.”
Meet Lewis.
Here's how the Talented Athlete funding helped champion Nottinghamshire swimmer, Lewis Warner.
“The £500 I received allowed me to train to a higher standard, enter more competitions, cover travel costs, coaching fee’s and I’ll definitely being applying again for the 2023 season.”
Meet Matilda
Matilda Franklin is making a 'racket' in Badminton.
"Since receiving support from the Talented Athlete fund, I've achieved some fantastic results in 2022 and continue to work on my goals for 2023. I have medalled in a number of domestic tournaments at U17, U19 and senior age group levels.
The funding allowed me to travel and compete in the U17 French Open, winning women’s doubles gold. I followed this a few months later with another women’s doubles gold at the U19 Irish Open. I have since competed at the U17 Denmark Open, and at home, I've been selected to represent Nottinghamshire as a member of the senior county team."
Meet figure skater Elena
New blades for aspiring figure skater Elena Komova thanks to funding from the Talented Athletes Scheme.
"Now the Olympic festival has been postponed until December 2021. Elena keeps working really hard to keep her level, improve her skating skills despite the closure of ice rinks for quite a long period of time during lock down. Her ambition is representing GB at the Winter Olympic Games in 2022 and she is determined to achieve it.
We are very thankful to the Talented Athlete Fund which contributed towards the purchase of new blades for Elena."
Meet the Green family table tennis trio
Siblings Erin, Connor and Anna Green (photographed right of trophy in photo below) are all aspiring table tennis athletes, you can check out their Facebook page which documents their journeys and achievements, Green Table Tennis Trio.

Meet ice hockey player Jodie
Jodie's continued to train hard during the pandemic by hitting her local gym 6 days a week...Watch this space - she hopes to be joining Team GB in the World Championships next year!
"Unfortunately due to Covid, Great Britain were unable to compete in the world championships as they were cancelled, but I have been working hard off the ice and am looking forward to competing in the Olympic Qualifiers in South Korea this October."
Meet rower Rachel
Talented Athlete recipient Rachel Heap is a part of the Under 23s Team GB rowing team. In 2018, she came 5th at the Under 23 European Championships and won the Fuller's Head of the River Fours race. Rachel has also competed at Henley Royal Regatta.
