Waste that could be harmful to human health or to the environment is known as hazardous waste.
Examples of hazardous waste you are likely to find in household rubbish are:
- garden chemicals
- bleach, or other strong cleaners and disinfectants
- asbestos
- gas bottles
- solvents (including paint strippers/thinners)
- clinical waste.
Paint is not a hazardous household waste but should be handed to the site operator at a household waste recycling centre or put into the general household waste skip.
