Teaching assistants

Teaching assistants provide support to class teachers in primary and secondary schools.

Their role is varied and can include working with small groups of children during literacy and numeracy lessons or giving one-to-one support to children with special needs.

Volunteering to help out in your child’s class is a popular way to find out if you have what it takes to be a classroom assistant. Qualifications are not always needed to become an assistant as training will be given once you have started in the job.
