School bus passes

Children attending their local catchment school are entitled to a free or discount fare travel bus pass if they are:

  • Under 8 and
    • walk over two miles to school - Free travel pass
    • walk two miles or under to school - Discounted travel pass
  • Over 8 and
    • walk over three miles to school - Free travel pass until end of educational year in which 16th birthday falls
    • walk three miles or under to school - Discounted travel pass on available services until end of educational year in which 16th birthday falls

The walking distance is the shortest route from your home address to your local catchment school and can include footpaths, jitty’s and paved areas. This means the walking distance may be shorter than the route by car.

Parents and carers who decide to send their child to a school of their choice are responsible for organising and paying for their child’s school transport.

You can appeal if your child is not given a free or discounted travel pass.
