Children living in the county can go to a Nottinghamshire school when they are five years old.
You can apply online for a place for your child at their local school.
Your local school will be worked out from which school’s catchment area covers your home address. You can check your local school catchment area online.
If you prefer, instead of applying to send your child to your local catchment school you can apply to send your child to a school of your choice.
If there are too many applications for places at a school, places will be allocated using the school’s oversubscription criteria. The criteria will be published in the school’s prospectus.
Admissions to community schools and voluntary controlled schools are controlled by the County Council. Some arrangements for voluntary controlled schools may vary, however, and it is advisable to consult the school's prospectus.
In voluntary aided and foundation schools the governors are responsible for the admissions policy and may have different closing dates for applications from community and controlled schools. Details of arrangements are available from the head teacher.
If your application for a school place at either your local catchment school or the school of your choice is unsuccessful, you can appeal against the decision.
