Safer routes to school

We try to make it easier and safer for children and their carers to walk and cycle to school.

Practical ways we can help include providing new safer crossing points and ‘school awareness zones’ which use bold road signs and markings to remind motorists to slow down.

We also work closely with schools and parents to develop school travel plans. School travel plans combine physical road improvements, like signs and road lining, with walk to school days to help change parents' and children's attitudes towards walking and cycling.
