Parks and gardens

Visit Nottinghamshire’s parks and gardens to unwind, enjoy fresh air and take some exercise.

Bestwood Country Park – 690 acres of woodland, meadow, tracks and trails to explore, including Mill Lakes.

Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve – 450 acres of ancient oak and birch forest and open heathland.  The legendary home of Robin Hood.

Rufford Abbey Country Park – a 150 acre country park based around the picturesque ruins of a 12th century monastery, including modern formal gardens, woodland and lakeside walks.

Gardens and parkland can also be enjoyed at

Newstead Abbey, www.newsteadabbey.org.uk, the ancestral home of Lord Byron, and at

Wollaton Hall, www.wollatonhall.org.uk, both cared for by Nottingham City Council.
