Land use

The development and use of land is controlled by planning legislation. Most developments require planning permission either from the County Council or district councils.

Locations for new housing developments, roads and businesses are tightly controlled by the County and City Council’s Joint Structure Plan which will be replaced by the East Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy – a 20 year blueprint for planning and land use in the East Midlands.
