Following the closure of the Nottinghamshire coalfield the County Council has gained a wealth of experience in reclaiming former industrial sites for new business, residential and leisure developments.
Over the past thirty years over 2000 hectares of former military and coalfield landhas been reclaimed in Nottinghamshire. Major schemes include:
- Ruddington Ordnance Depot which is now home to a steam railway heritage centre and business park
- Linby Colliery which was treated for contaminated land and now is a site for housing
- Shireoaks Marina which was formerly a colliery yard (mooring details from British Waterways)
