Hazardous waste

Hazardous waste is anything that could be harmful to human health or to the environment.

Hazardous waste includes:

  • garden chemicals
  • bleach, or other strong cleaners and disinfectants
  • asbestos
  • gas bottles
  • solvents (including paint strippers/thinners)
  • clinical waste.

Paint is not a hazardous household waste but should be handed to the site operator or put into the general household waste skip. Some charities will take reusable paint.

If you need to dispose of some hazardous household waste, contact your local district council
