Gritting and grit bins

We salt all the major roads in the county when temperatures are forecast to go below freezing. You can view the gritting routes using our online gritting map.

We keep major roads open during bad weather by carrying out snow clearance across the whole county.

Grit bins
If you live on a residential street that is unusually steep or has a very sharp bend, you can request a grit bin from the County Council. Local residents are responsible for making sure the bin is kept full of salt and for spreading any salt on the road in severe weather.
