If you’re aged between 13 and 16 years and want to work, you need an employment permit from your employer.
There are rules which set how many hours a child can work:
- no child may be employed before the hours of 7.00am. or after 7pm
- on school days a child can only work for a maximum of two hours and not during school time
- on Saturdays a child under 15 may work up to five hours, a child over 15 may work up to 8 hours
- on Sundays a child may only work a maximum of two hours. No child may work more than 12 hours in any one week.
Your Targeted Support Case Manager (Education Welfare) for your local area will be able to provide further advice.
