The County Council has a duty to plan for major emergencies to help the local community cope with an emergency, such as flooding, terrorist attack etc. Help can include organising a rest centre to provide shelter for people who have to leave their home, providing meals and supporting the work of the emergency services.
To make sure we know what to do in an emergency we have to plan how we can help. This can involve simulating an emergency to test out our plans.
We work with other organisations like the police, amulance, fire and health as well as local councils and government organisations whenever we do this.
We have a number of contingency plans in place to make sure we know what to do in different kinds of emergency.
