Early Years Education

All three and four year olds in Nottinghamshire are entitled to a free, part-time, early years care and education place, known as ‘the free entitlement’. The places offer 15 hours of free early learning each week during term time covering the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Children can learn new things and develop new skills, whilst having the chance to play with other children and make new friends. All three and four year olds in Nottinghamshire are entitled to a place. Places are available at nurseries, pre-schools, playgroups and some childminders.

The childcare settings are Ofsted registered which means they meet clear standards designed to provide a safe, secure environment for your child. The free places are funded by the Government. There are over 16,000 early years places available across Nottinghamshire – one for every three and four year old who wants one. You won’t automatically be contacted or offered a place – you will need to register your child for a place with the provider of your choice. The Nottinghamshire Family Service Directory contains a comprehensive list of all Ofsted registered childcare in Nottinghamshire.
