Around two-thirds of our budget comes from the council tax.
We also receive around £420 million from the government to run schools.
When County Councillors set the budget they have to make sure that they have enough money to provide services to meet the needs of everyone living in Nottinghamshire at a price that people can afford.
There are increasing pressures on the County Council’s budget from a number of areas. People are living longer and need more help to live independently in their own home. The cost of disposing of household rubbish is rising to pay for tougher environmental safeguards.
As in previous years the County Council is reducing its overheads and looking very carefully at where and how it spends your money.
