Contaminated land

Planning legislation under the Town and Country Planning Act places the responsibility on owners and developers to establish the extent of any potentially harmful materials on their sites.

Over the past thirty years over 2000 hectares of former military and coalfield land has been reclaimed in Nottinghamshire.

District councils have a legal duty to keep a register of contaminated land in their area.
