The closure of the Nottinghamshire coalfield during the early 1990s left a legacy of derelict coal mine sites across the county.
A deal signed between UK Coal and the County Council involved turning the former pit sites into country parks by planting millions of trees, landscaping and providing new cycle tracks and footpaths.
Nottinghamshire now has 14 new country parks on the site of former coal mines which provide great homes for wildlife and a relaxing day out on foot or by bike.
