Our responsibility for household and commercial waste disposal in Nottinghamshire means we need to think of ways to deal with hundreds and thousands of tonnes of rubbish.

We’ve worked with local district councils to make it easier for people to collect and recycle their household rubbish with the doorstep recycling schemes.

Our 18 household waste and recycling centres collect over 100,000 tonnes of rubbish every year and we recycle almost 58% of the rubbish collected.

We’re also looking at new ways to get rid of rubbish that cannot be recycled. New European environmental laws require all councils to look at alternative ways of disposing of our rubbish instead of burying it underground in landfill sites. Instead we need to look at alternatives like incineration.
