If you’re a consumer or you run a business, trading standards can help you.

Advice for consumers
We work in partnership with Consumer Direct to provide advice if you have a disagreement with a shop or business about a product or service you have bought.

Consumer Direct is a government funded advice service for everyone to use. They can help if advice is needed about resolving an issue or a dispute with a retailer or trader.  They can also provide advice before you purchase goods or pay for services.

The telephone and online advice service at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk can explain your rights and gives impartial advice.

Advice is free, with telephone calls being charged at a local rate (cost of calls from mobile phones and certain landlines may vary).

The service is available 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, excluding Bank Holidays / Public Holidays.
